They look at how concrete forms of gender, race, class, and sexual inequality operate transnationally; examine the impact of globalization on local and everyday life experiences; and identify how local actors re-imagine social possibilities, resist injustice, and work toward change.

Integrating theory with empirical studies that are of particular interest to college students--including research on violence, sports, and sexuality--the authors make gender concepts genuinely interesting and accessible. They also demonstrate how students can think critically about gender, both within and beyond the classroom.

Verified Purchase. Rented it for a Women's Studies class, and I liked the book. Hard to really judge it as we only used a couple of the chapters don't you love paying for college books you hardly use? The attention to males at certain parts was especially nice since some of the other readings in my class although most don't paint the white straight male as the "Big Bad". All and all, it was a pretty good "purchase".

I rented Gendered Worlds for my Women's and Gender Studies class, and it has been the most eye-opening and wonderful book I've ever read in my career as a student!

I have learned so much about gender, biological sex, and sexuality, as well as the various forms of privilege and oppression that are prevalent in the world even in America! I am so inspired to use the knowledge I have gained to listen to those who need to be heard and to support various organizations and causes. Judy Root Aulette and Judith Wittner have done a wonderful job organizing this material. If you want a book that will: challenge you to be a better person, help you recognize your privilege, and allow you to view gender and sexuality in a different light, then this is the book for you!

This book is worth the hefty price; it is life-changing. I have read customers reviews felt their indifference and lack of insight. The book is a meaningless collection of depressing social facts. This is an amazing book when it comes to understanding Gender. I needed this book for my gender studies class but it doesn't feel like a textbook.

It will leave you asking more questions than it will give you answers but it does help you learn more about why things are the way they are, and why people are fighting for change. Had to get this for school, but it's actually a really great read! Go to Amazon. Back to top. Get to Know Us. Shopbop Designer Fashion Brands. Alexa Actionable Analytics for the Web.
